Notes
Apple variations:
- Honey crisp: Perfect apple for baking and my personal favorite for baking due to this apple's firm texture. Honey crisp apples won't cook down and are one of the sweetest apples.
- Jazz apples: Crunchy, sweet, in taste. Best eaten fresh or baked. Like the honey crisp apple, these apples stay firm when baking.
- Russet apples: Flavor is sweet and spicy known best to be used in apple ciders and baking. These apples are not known for their appearance. However, these are one of the best apples for baking.
- Fuji apples: Are one of the sweetest apples and also bake well. However, they are mostly eaten fresh or used to make homemade apple juice.
Flour substitutes:
- Chickpea flour: This is one of the best-known flour substitutes for baking. That is due to its denseness, it provides a "sturdy yet tender texture" and chickpea flour is high in protein.
- Oatmeal flour: This is another great flour substitute it is high in protein and fiber and makes for tasty baked goods. If using in replacement of flour add 1/2 cup of milk as opposed to 3/4 cup of milk when using regular flour in this recipe.
