Cucumber Dill Dip Recipe

Ingredients Needed

  • English Cucumber
  • Sour Cream
  • Cream Cheese
  • Lemon Juice
  • Dill Weed or Fresh Dill
  • Minced Onion
  • Garlic Powder
Dip topped with diced cucumber on a table served with sliced radishes, bagel chips, Triscuit crackers, and multigrain crackers.

English Cucumber: English cucumbers are seedless and easy to prepare. All you do is slice, dice, and fold into the dip. Compared to regular cucumbers, the English variety have a delicate skin, so there’s no need to peel the cucumber.

Sour Cream: Sour cream makes this dip smooth and easy to glide dippers through. You can use light or regular sour cream.

Lemon Juice: Freshly squeezed is best. I strongly recommend not using the bottled kind. It just doesn’t taste the same.

Cream Cheese: The cream cheese cheese gives this dip a rich flavor. You can use reduced-fat or regular. It needs to be softened to room temperature, so keep that in mind.

Dill: Fresh dill or dried dill weed both work for this recipe. I used dill weed because it’s what I had on-hand in my pantry.

Dried herbs like dill are more potent than fresh. When substituting fresh herbs for dried, triple the amount.

Additional Seasonings: Garlic powder and dried minced onion give this dip a lot of flavor.

I almost can’t think of anything that wouldn’t taste delicious with this appetizer.

Recipe Tips

  • Make the dip a few hours in advance for all the flavors to really come together.
  • The cream cheese needs to be softened for even mixing, so set it out at room temperature at least an hour ahead of time. You can also soften it in the microwave on lower power in short bursts. Be careful not to melt it and be sure to remove any foil packaging.
  • For a lighter dip, substitute both the sour cream and cream cheese with Greek yogurt. Here’s my recipe for another healthy veggie dip with Greek yogurt.
